Path of Exile: Delirium Introduces Cluster Jewels to the Game

Grinding Gear Games has announced that the latest free expansion for Path of Exile, Delirium, is now available for download on the PC. Besides adds deadly new enemies and amplifies existing ones to create an intense layer of difficulty to Path of Exile's core combat, Path of Exile: Delirium also introduces Cluster Jewels to the game which further enables deep character customization and unlock new power.

These jewels significantly improve character customization and can expand the passive skill tree to allow for increased strength and versatility. This is perhaps one of the most anticipated parts of the new league; after all, half the fun in Path of Exile is coming up with a fun build, and Cluster Jewels will allow for even more builds.

Cluster jewels are special jewels you can socket into the edges of the tree that open up a new set of passive skills, usually based around a particular theme. It's a nice twist on the different mechanics of the Passive Tree. Each one alters the Skill Tree by unlocking new Notables depending on the Jewel. There are 280 new notables in all. There are dozens of different Cluster Jewels, each with their own unique effects. The player can take advantage of major bonuses from these Jewels and power a certain archetype.

There are three sizes of jewel – Large, Medium and Small, each with their own radius just like other Passive Jewels. The big difference is that these determine where they can be placed in terms of the Sockets on the Passive Tree. As GGG described it, “Large jewels may be placed in the outermost passive skill tree sockets and focus on offensive bonuses. Medium jewels can be placed in the outermost passive skill tree sockets or a socket created by a large jewel and they focus on specific mechanics and utility effects. Small cluster jewels can be placed in sockets created by Large or Medium jewels and sockets on the outermost parts of the passive skill tree. Small jewels focus on defenses.”

Cluster Jewels each size providing different types of benefits, like offense, defense, or utility effects. These new jewels confer a total of 280 new Notables and can be crafted the same way other jewels can. Players should note that the number of passive skills added by the jewel work like enchantments, not implicit mods, meaning they cannot be rerolled with Blessed Orbs, and will not be overwritten if players add a corruption-exclusive implicit mod to the jewel.

Cluster Jewels can be crafted using all of the same methods that you're used to using with other Path of Exile items. Like other jewels, they can have up to two prefixes and two suffixes. It's worth noting that the number of passive skills added by the jewel and the effect of the small nodes are both enchantments, not implicit mods. This means that they cannot be rerolled with Blessed Orbs, and will not be overwritten if you add a corruption-exclusive implicit mod to the jewel.

Seven of the new notables are major, build-altering skills like Kineticism, which guarantees that all your projectiles inflict Bleeding and Maim and Knock Back enemies but cannot Pierce, Fork, or Chain. That sounds like a good deal for builds focusing on single-target takedowns, while gimping them against larger groups. The bulk of the new notables offer lesser, though significant bonuses, usually to attack or defense, though some have more interesting effects.

In addition to Cluster Jewels, Path of Exile: Delirium makes the following changes and additions:

• Four new skills and three new support gems, such as Kinetic Bolt and Bladeblast

• 13 new unique items, such as a cosmetic set of equipment and numerous unique jewels

• Improvements to the Conquerors of the Atlas endgame

• The Metamorph League has been integrated as core gameplay
